Maha Mutrujay

The Maha Mrityunjaya Puja is a significant and powerful ritual in Hinduism dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is performed to invoke the blessings of Lord Shiva for overcoming serious health issues, averting untimely death, and achieving spiritual peace. The centerpiece of this puja is the chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, which is considered one of the most potent mantras for healing and protection.

Preparation:

  • Clean the space and set up an altar with an idol or image of Lord Shiva.
  • Place all the offerings and puja items on the altar.

Invocation:

  • The priest or the individual performing the puja begins by invoking Lord Ganesha to remove any obstacles.
  • Invoke Lord Shiva and other deities.

Sankalpa:

  • The priest or devotee makes a vow (sankalpa) stating the purpose and intention of the puja.

Purification:

  • Sprinkling of holy water (Gangajal) to purify the surroundings and participants.

Abhishekam (Bathing the Deity):

  • The idol or Shiva Lingam is bathed with various substances like milk, yogurt, honey, ghee, and water.

Offering (Naivedya):

  • Offer flowers, fruits, and other items to Lord Shiva while chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.

Havan (Fire Ritual):

  • A sacred fire is lit, and offerings are made into the fire while continuously chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.

Aarti:

  • Perform the Aarti (waving of lighted lamps) to Lord Shiva, accompanied by devotional singing.
